Tom Schreiber to Make Machine Debut against Florida

May 8, 2014 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL) - Ohio Machine News Release

COLUMBUS, OHIO (May 8, 2014) - The Ohio Machine announced the upcoming debut of the first overall selection from the 2014 Major League Lacrosse Collegiate Draft, midfielder Tom Schreiber. Schreiber will take the field for the first time with the Machine on Saturday, May 10, against the Florida Launch in Boca Raton, Fla. The game will be televised live on SportsTime Ohio at 7 p.m. EST.

"Tom is a very dynamic player who will enhance the roster right away," Machine Head Coach Bear Davis said. "We are very excited to have him aboard the Machine."

"I couldn't be more excited to begin the next chapter of my lacrosse career," Schreiber said. "The Machine is a very talented team and I'm looking forward to helping in any way I can."

Schreiber joins the Machine after completing a stellar career at Princeton University. He left Princeton with the school's career records in goals, assists and points by a midfielder. Schreiber led the Tigers in goals and points during the 2014 campaign and was a finalist for the Tewaaraton Trophy in 2013. Schreiber is the only midfielder in Ivy League history to finish their career with at least 100 goals and 90 assists. Schreiber was a first team All-American in 2012 and 2013, and a team captain for the Tigers in 2013 and 2014. He was named to the All-Ivy League First Team all four years at Princeton.

Coach Davis said Schreiber has the talent to step in and contribute right away for Ohio.

"He will make a smooth transition because he is a spark plug that fits the engine of the Machine," Davis said. The East Meadow, N.Y., native is set to serve as an assistant coach for the Ugandan national team at the 2014 FIL World Lacrosse Championships this summer in Denver, Colo.

Schreiber will be the third No. 1 overall pick in the MLL Collegiate Draft on the Machine roster. The Machine selected midfielder Peter Baum with the first pick in 2013, while fellow midfielder Kyle Harrison was drafted with the top pick by New Jersey in 2005.

Schreiber joins a Machine team that is 1-1 in the 2014 season. The Machine jumped out to an early 6-0 lead over the Charlotte Hounds week one before winning, 15-8. Week two brought an extremely physical match up with the Denver Outlaws that ended with the Machine losing 12-14.

Following its game against Florida, the Machine returns to Selby Stadium for its 2014 home opener against the New York Lizards. Game time is set for 8 p.m. Information on 2014 Machine tickets can be found at www.theohiomachine.com/tickets.
