Everett Silvertips News Release
EVERETT - The Everett Silvertips of the Western Hockey League today announced a contract extension for General Manager Garry Davidson that will keep him in his current role for five additional years through at least the 2019-2020 WHL season. Davidson is currently preparing for his fourth full season as Everett's General Manager starting this fall.
"Garry has been instrumental in getting the Silvertips back on track with a work ethic and commitment to doing things the right way, which has been beneficial for the entire organization," said Silvertips President Gary Gelinas. "He has brought in skilled players and done a terrific job with the coaching staff to get the team back to a level we set as our standard. Behind the scenes, Garry has improved the way we do business in many different areas that most people don't see, including a consultative approach with open communication, leveraging the staff, scouting and player evaluation."
"Garry is a great hockey mind and an even better person who cares about the players, the people, the game and the organization. We have a top-tier management team in Garry and Zoran (Rajcic) and we're happy to maintain continuity to keep the Silvertips heading in a positive direction. We are excited about the future and Garry is very much an integral part of that."
Since being hired by the Silvertips in February 2012, Davidson has put pieces in place to help the club rise in the Western Conference standings from eighth place in 2013 to fifth in 2014 and mostly recently second place as U.S. Division champions (tied for third in the entire WHL) this past season. Davidson secured the return of Head Coach Kevin Constantine to the organization in 2013 and has engineered trades for impact players such as Nikita Scherbak, Ben Betker, Remi Laurencelle, Jujhar Khaira, and Matt Pufahl during his Silvertips tenure.
Under Davidson's guidance, Everett selected six players in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft who are now full-time WHLers, including Montreal Canadiens 2015 first-round NHL Draft pick Noah Juulsen in the fourth round. In addition to 2016 NHL Draft candidates such as Patrick Bajkov and Carter Hart, the club has a number of other upcoming prospects who are poised to become WHL contributors and NHL prospects in the years to come.
"I'm excited to have the opportunity to continue working for such a quality organization and ownership group here in Everett," remarked Davidson. "I came here with a goal of moving the team back to the prominence it had in the early years both on and off the ice. I think we've made some significant steps in that direction, but there are also many goals we haven't yet attained and I hope that in the coming years we can share more successes with our fans. My first few years here in Everett have been very rewarding, and I'm pleased with the confidence CEO Bill Yuill and President Gary Gelinas has shown in me by extending my contract."
