Tigers Sweep Rebels on Bob Ridley Night

February 28, 2021 - Western Hockey League (WHL) - Medicine Hat Tigers News Release

Medicine Hat, AB - The second half of the first home and home series opened with a well deserved tribute to the legendary voice of the Tigers Bob Ridley, who after a 354 day wait got to call his 4000th game for the Medicine Hat Tigers.

Oasiz Wiesblatt and Brayden Boehm scored their first career WHL goals as the Tigers got production from all four lines in tonight's contest. The Tigers went 1-6 on the Powerplay and only ended up shorthanded once on the night.

The Tigers jumped out to a hot start as Alternate Captain Cole Clayton opened the scoring with a blast from the point only 36 seconds into the opening period. The Tigers would register another marker only 3 minutes later as newly minted Captain Ryan Chyzowski beat Byron Fancy low on the blocker side. Assists to Brett Kemp and Cole Clayton. The Orange and Black continued to pour the pressure on and took a commanding 3 goal lead as Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Lukas Svejkovsky shows his slick mitts scoring on a breakaway on a beauty pass from Dru Krebs. Oasiz Wiesblatt would drive the lead to 4 as he notched his first career WHL goal. That would spell the end of the night for Rebels tender Byron Fancy.

The Rebels would start the second period with a powerplay, but failed to connect. Red Deer would put on some pressure, but Tigers netminder Garin Bjorklund would stand tall. Chris Douglas spoiled the perfect start by Bjorklund tallying with 1:34 left in the 2nd.

Red Deer looked to build on that momentum as Chris Douglas would net a seeing eye single and draw the Rebs to within 2. That's as close as the Rebels would come as the Tabbies would add markers from Brayden Boehm, Brett Kemp and Noah Danielson.

The Tigers next travel to Edmonton on Friday for their first match-up of the season with the high powered Edmonton Oil Kings.
