February 10, 2020 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) - Halifax Thunderbirds News Release

Halifax, Nova Scotia - The Thunderbirds are set to host DND Appreciation Night at the Scotiabank Centre on Saturday, February 15th as they take on the Saskatchewan Rush. There will be various activations throughout the night, including both teams sporting military-themed jerseys. These jerseys will be auctioned off at the end of the game with proceeds going to VETS Canada. Fans are able to bid starting on Tuesday, February 10th at noon at

"The Thunderbirds are proud to support a great organization like VETS Canada," said Thunderbirds President and CEO John Catalano. "We look forward to working with VETS Canada at our next home game to provide vital resources and assistance to Veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces and the RCMP."

Back in October the Thunderbirds announced their partnership with VETS Canada for the 2019-2020 season. Veterans Emergency Transition Services is a federally registered non-profit charity committed to helping homeless and at-risk veterans reintegrate into civilian life. VETS Canada is primarily volunteer based with a network of 135,000 people across 18 cities in Canada.

The Thunderbirds will donate a portion of the proceeds from the sale of special military-themed t-shirts, 51/49, and ticket sales to VETS Canada.

"We are thrilled to be working with the Halifax Thunderbirds organization on this important game honouring the men and women who serve our country," said Jim Lowther, VETS Canada, President and, Co-founder. "Personally, we are long time lacrosse fans so the fact that we now have this amazing team in our city, coupled with the fact that VETS Canada will be recipients of some of the proceeds of this important game, is just incredible!"

With such a large military community in Halifax it's crucial to partner with a national charity whose aim is to provide immediate, on the ground support to Veterans of the Canadian Armed Forces and RCMP who are homeless, at risk of becoming homeless or otherwise in crisis. Approaching the decade mark of service, hundreds of military members have been impacted across the country through the services provided by the thousands of volunteers in each province.
