
Thunder Add Three New Players

Trenton Thunder News Release
(Trenton, NJ) - The Trenton Thunder, Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced Tuesday that catcher J.R. Murphy and outfielders Rob Segedin and Neil Medchill have been transferred to the team from Class-A Tampa. Additionally, C Jose Gil has been placed on the seven-day disabled list (clavicular contusion) and RHP Sean Back and C Kyle Higashioka have been transferred back to Tampa.
Murphy was rated the Yankees 9th best prospect by Baseball America heading into the 2012 season. He was promoted to Trenton after hitting .257 with five home runs and 28 RBI in 67 games with Tampa. The 21 year-old spent most of the last two years with Single-A Charleston before being promoted to Single-A Tampa for the end of the 2011 campaign.
Segedin makes a return to to the Thunder after being a member of the team but never officially playing in a game at the end of the 2010 season. The Teaneck, NJ native was named to the Florida State League Mid-Season All Star team after batting .297 and ranking 2nd on the team with seven home runs and 41 RBI. Segedin was originally selected by the Yankees in the 3rd round of 2003 out of Tulane University.
Medchill joins Trenton after hitting .248 with six home runs and 32 RBI in 57 games with Tampa. This is his second stint with the Thunder after playing in 3 games in April, batting .125 with a solo HR against Erie on April 26. He spent the entire 2011 season with Tampa and batted .225 with 11 home runs and 25 RBI in 59 games with the Yankees. Medchill was drafted by the Yankees in the 11th round in 2009 out of Oklahoma State university.
