Richmond Kickers News Release

RICHMOND, Va. - USL League One announced on Monday that Richmond Kickers goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald, defender Ivan Magalhães and forward Emiliano Terzaghi all were named to the Team of the Week for Week 5 in Saturday's win over South Georgia Tormenta FC.

Claiming his second clean sheet of the season, Fitzgerald had two saves along with two catches and two punches. The veteran keeper also recorded three clearances while winning both of his aerial duels. Completing 81.8 percent of his passes, he delivered the pass to Jonathan Bolanos that would eventually set up the first goal of the night for Richmond.

A rock at the back, Magalhães led all players in both clearances (5) and interceptions (10) to help preserve the club's second shutout of the year. He led the team in both passes (51) and successful passes (43) while being tied on the team with two blocks. On the other side of the ball, Magalhães was dangerous on set plays as he was barely denied an opening goal in the 24th minute when his header was cleared off the line.

Scoring his first two goals of the season, the reigning league MVP and Golden Boot winner continued where he left off last season. Terzaghi scored his two goals off three total shots, the first coming in the 80th minute. He played the ball wide for Oalex Anderson making a run up the right wing. Anderson cut back to lay the ball off for Terzaghi. With his back to goal, Terzaghi spun his defender and chipped the keeper. Nine minutes later, the Argentine converted from the penalty spot for his brace.

The Kickers get a break in the schedule before returning to action on Saturday, May 22 to host league newcomers and former USL Championship rivals North Carolina FC at City Stadium. Kickoff for that match is set for 6:30 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at RichmondKickers.com/Tickets.

USL League One Team of the Week - Week 5

GK - Akira Fitzgerald, Richmond Kickers: Fitzgerald made two saves to keep a clean sheet in Richmond's 2-0 win against Tormenta FC, including a scrambling effort to keep the ball from trickling over the goal-line with the score still level in the second half. His distribution was also strong, as he completed six accurate long balls and 81 percent of his passes overall.

D - Dámia Viader, Union Omaha: In addition to his goal and assist, Viader completed two successful dribbles, won five duels, and played two key passes as Omaha continued its perfect start to the early season.

D - Ivan Magalhães, Richmond Kickers: The Brazilian center back was brilliant for the Kickers on Saturday night in their victory against Tormenta FC, making 10 interceptions, five clearances and winning four duels.

D - Abdul Illal Osumanu, Union Omaha: Osumanu was a key figure in Omaha's clean sheet against Fort Lauderdale, making seven clearances and six recoveries. He also was the game's most accurate passer, completing all but one of his 33 passes on the night.

M - José Carrera García, Chattanooga Red Wolves SC: It was an all-action display from the Chattanooga midfielder in his debut for the club. Carrera Garcia completed 86 percent of his passes (the best of any player to play 45 minutes or more), won the most duels of any player with five, completed two dribbles and created one chance on the night.

M - Alex Morrell, Greenville Triumph SC: Morrell was one of League One's best playmakers in 2020, and he reprised that role in his first start of 2021, leading all players in Greenville's win over North Carolina with five chances created.

M - JP Scearce, Union Omaha: Scearce's creativity was vital to unlocking Fort Lauderdale's defense. The midfielder created the most chances in the match with four, assisted Viader's second-half strike, and won five duels.

M - Deri Corfe, FC Tucson: A good bit of instinctive play helped Corfe pounce on a Madison mistake to score his first goal for Tucson. The Chester, England native also passed at a 90 percent success rate.

F - Emiliano Terzaghi, Richmond Kickers: The reigning League One MVP and Golden Boot winner looked every bit like his old self on Saturday, scoring twice in the final 10 minutes of normal time to lift Richmond to a meaningful win.

F - Lachlan McLean, Greenville Triumph SC: McLean's high-quality headed goal was the difference between Greenville and North Carolina FC on Saturday night. The Australian also won eight duels and played one key pass.

F - Jimmie Villalobos, Chattanooga Red Wolves SC: Villalobos' 32nd-minute strike proved to be the match-winner for Chattanooga, helping the Red Wolves become the first team in nearly two years to beat North Texas SC away from home.
