Thompson headed to Providence

Seattle, April 22, 2005 - Seattle Thunderbirds center Nate Thompson will suit up in the American Hockey League playoffs with the Providence Bruins, the top minor league affiliate of the National Hockey Leagues' Boston Bruins.

"Its bitter sweet with the T-Birds season ending, but I am excited to be getting a chance to play in Providence," Thompson said. "Playing in Seattle for four years has been a great experience and has given me an opportunity to move to the next level in my hockey career."

Thompson was selected by the Boston Bruins in the sixth round, 183rd overall, of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. "Nate had a real solid season for us and a very good playoffs," Thunderbirds General Manager Russ Farwell said. "He played a key role in all situations on the ice. It is good to see him get a chance at the next level."

Thompson played 253 games in four years with the T- Birds and had 143 points on 55 goals and 88 assists. He had 153 career penalty minutes.

The T-Birds advanced to the second round of the playoffs, but were eliminated by the Kelowna Rockets in seven games to end their season. Nate played in all 12 games in the playoffs and had three points on a goal and two assists.

The Providence Bruins begin their best-of-seven Atlantic Division Semifinals series Friday night when they hit the road to face the Manchester Monarchs. Game 2 is Saturday night, with the Bruins at home for Games 3 and 4 on Monday and Wednesday.
