Thomas' Homer Highlights 9-2 Cougar Loss

Appleton, Wisconsin - Outfielder Alek Thomas cranked his second homer of the year, but the Kane County Cougars (21-17) lost 9-2 against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (17-18) on Tuesday afternoon at Fox Cities Stadium. The Cougars were out-hit 12-5.

For the second game in a row, Wisconsin scored first. In the bottom of the third, Brice Turang hit a sacrifice fly to put the Timber Rattlers up 1-0. Thomas' solo homer tied the game in the top of the fourth inning. The tie score didn't last into the fifth inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Chad McClanahan and Brent Diaz collected RBI singles for Wisconsin. The Rattlers made it 4-1 on a double steal with the Leugim Castillo stealing home.

Wisconsin broke the game open in the sixth inning. Castillo extended the Wisconsin lead to 5-1 on an RBI ground out. With two outs in the inning, Cougar shortstop Blaze Alexander committed an error to keep the inning alive and allowed another run to score. Korry Howell followed with a double, chasing Cougar starter Ryan Weiss from the game. Ryan Fritze came out of the pen and served up a Brice Turang two-run homer.

Eddie Hernandez recorded a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning to complete the scoring for the Cougars.

Ryan Weiss (1-3) was tagged with the loss. The right-hander surrendered eight runs (five earned) on ten hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Adam Hill (4-2) earned the win after 5.1 innings of one-run ball for the Rattlers.
