Thomas Awarded Texas League Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Texas League has announced Springfield Cardinals outfielder Lane Thomas as Player of the Week for June 4 - June 10.

Thomas, 22, hit safely in all five games he played last week, extending his hit streak to nine games. He led the Texas League in slugging (.810) and OPS (1.288) and was among league leaders in total bases (17, T1st), extra-base hits (4, T1st), doubles (2, T2nd), home runs (2, T2nd), batting (.429, 3rd), hits (9, T3rd), RBIs (7, T3rd) and on-base percentage (.478, 6th).

The Knoxville, Tennessee native is batting .260 with 35 runs and 43 RBIs to go with a .343 on-base percentage and .845 OPS this season. He has 13 doubles and 13 home runs in 57 games. His 13 home runs are his single-season career high. Thomas is currently third in the Texas League in home runs, fifth in extra-base hits (26) and fourth in HR/AB ratio (1/16.85) for the 2018 season. Thomas has five outfield assists in 53 starts in center field. His 11 stolen bases lead the Cardinals.

The outfielder was selected by Toronto in the fifth round of the 2014 June Draft out of Bearden High School in Knoxville, Tennessee. St. Louis acquired Thomas from the Blue Jays on July 2, 2017 for Other Considerations.
