Sioux City Musketeers News Release

The Musketeers finished 1-1-1 this weekend after a triple header weekend against the defending Clark Cup Champion Sioux Falls Stampede on Friday followed by a doubleheader with the Chicago Steel on Saturday and Sunday.

The Musketeers started off the weekend on Friday with a 5-2 win over the defending Clark Cup Champion Sioux Falls Stampede. The game started off with an equal 7 shots each as the teams felt each other out in the 1st period. The Musketeers then started off the scoring with Dominic Vidoli and his 3rd goal on the season just 32 seconds into the 2nd period after a drop-off from Viktor Masilevich. Ray Christy then got his 2nd on the year at the 11:43 mark in the 2nd to put Sioux City up 2-0 after 2. Sioux Falls got one back and made it 2-1 3 minutes in to the 3rd period. Joel Maatta then got his 7th goal on the year putting the Musketeers back up by 2 only 15 seconds after Sioux Falls got within 1. Sioux Falls tried to keep the game tight with another goal at 12:54, but Kirklan Irey would crush Sioux Falls dreams with his 2nd goal on the year 6 seconds after the Stampede goal on a giveaway by the Stampede at 15:00 in the 3rd period. Sam Stange would put the dagger in with a shorthanded goal at 4:05 left in the 3rd period behind the Sioux Falls goalie after jamming it into the corner of the net to finish up the 5-2 win in the first matchup of the I-29 Rivalry this season.

After a win the night before the Musketeers came back on Saturday with lots of momentum before taking on the top team in the Eastern Conference. The Musketeers and the Steel came out of the 1st period tied at 0, but that would change at the 6:30 mark on the powerplay for the Steel. They would score back-to-back goals within 31 seconds of each other to take a 2-0 lead. 3 minutes later, the Steel would put 2 more in the back of the net within 10 seconds of each other to take a 4-0 lead. Sioux City would get one back off the stick of Sam Stange to make it 4-1. Chicago would get another one on the board with 3:11 left in the 2nd period. Sioux City would score the first goal of the 3rd period to bring them within 3 but Chicago would get another goal to make it 6-2 with 7:21 left in regulation, but Sioux City's Viktor Masilevich would score the final goal of the game to give the Musketeers a 3 goal loss at 6-3.

The Musketeers started off fast in the first period. Ray Christy would put his 3rd goal of the year in the back of the net at the 8:57 mark. That would be it for the scoring in the 1st period as the Musketeers led 1-0. The Musketeers would give up a goal to a former player in Mathieu De St. Phalle to tie it 1-1 before striking back with the Captain Ian Malcolmson and his 3rd goal of the season at 15:02 in the 2nd period keeping the lead at 1 for the Musketeers headed into the final period of regulation, but regulation would not be enough as Chicago got another puck by Haider to tie it 2-2. Chicago finished out the game just 1:53 into overtime to win 3-2.

The Musketeers now sit at 7-7-1 and tied with the Fargo Force for 5th in the Western Conference.

The Musketeers head to the home of the USA Hockey National Team Development Program this weekend for a game on Friday, November 22nd at 7:05pm and Saturday, November 23rd at 7:05pm.
