Joe Taufete'e has been an integral part of the Seattle Seawolves legacy. Over his time with the team, Joe has shown what it truly means to be a Seawolf-through his strength, dedication, and passion. Both on and off the pitch, Joe's impact has been felt deeply by the team, and especially by the Seawolves' devoted fans.
"We are disappointed to lose Joe but wish he and his family well in their next chapter." Says Coach Clarke.
A fan favorite, Joe's presence on the pitch was commanding, and his work ethic was relentless. From critical tackles to leading by example, Joe helped build the competitive spirit and camaraderie that defines the Seawolves. His departure to join NOLA Gold Rugby marks a new chapter for Joe, and while we are sad to see him go, we respect and support his decision wholeheartedly.
With Joe's departure, Head Coach Clarke has been quick to prepare for the future. "When we realized we were losing him we set about recruiting quality replacements. We're delighted to welcome not only Dewald and Kerron but also Jesse. Our strength in depth in the number 2 position for 2025 is fantastic." Clarke noted confidence in the team's ability to adapt and strengthen.
Dewald Kotze is originally from South Africa and raised in Edmonton, Canada, Dewald combines skill and passion honed over years on the pitch. Standing at 6'0 ¬Â³ and weighing 230 lbs, Dewald is celebrated for his power, precision, and relentless dedication to rugby.
Dewald shared, "I have always admired the program in Seattle. The Seawolves play an exciting brand of rugby and have an amazing fan base. I look forward to joining the team and being part of the campaign toward the shield."
Kerron Van Vuuren, a 6'2", 223 lb hooker from Durban, South Africa, brings seasoned experience from his time with the Sharks in both Super Rugby and the Currie Cup. Known for his resilience and competitive spirit, Kerron's impact at the Sharks included 64 appearances, where he demonstrated his skill and leadership. His addition to the Seawolves promises to bolster the team's front row with his strength and tactical expertise.
Jesse Mackail hails from Palmerston North, New Zealand, 6'1", 240 lb hooker Jesse Mackail has represented Canada on the international stage, with a standout moment earning his first cap against Scotland. Jesse shared, "I'm grateful to be back; I had a sniff last year in preseason before returning to Canada. But excited to rip in this year and do all I can to help the boys lift the shield." His versatility, dedication, and enthusiasm make him a valuable addition to Seattle's campaign toward the shield.
The Seawolves are thrilled to announce new signings: Dewald, Kerron, and Jesse, who will bolster the squad heading into the 2025 season. Clarke emphasized that the depth at the number 2 position is now stronger than ever.
