Richmond Kickers News Release

TAMPA, Fla. - USL League One announced on Wednesday that Richmond Kickers' forward Emiliano Terzaghi was named the league's August Player of the Month. Terzaghi's player of the month-worthy performances are presented by Legends Soccer Co.

Terzaghi earns his first Player of the Month recognition of the 2022 season after earning an additional nomination in April 2022. This is the third time that the reigning back-to-back league MVP has earned a monthly award after previously earning recognition as the July Player of the Month during the 2021 season and the September Player of the Month during the 2020 season.

Talismanic performances from the Argentine saw him lead the forward line as the Kickers amassed a 3-1-1 record that set the club up for its current first-place ranking in the league table. He scored six goals in five matches that included two game-winning goals and two braces.

The reigning back-to-back golden boot winner's six goals during the month saw him take the outright lead with 15 goals scored in the current golden boot race.

"It has been a very intense month for the team and they did a great job," Terzaghi said. "I appreciate the recognition, and also my teammates who helped me achieve it."

Because of his performances across the month, Terzaghi earned team of the week nods in week 19 on Aug. 8 and week 22 on Aug. 29.

Terzaghi began the month with a two-match stretch in four days that saw him score a memorable first-half long-range strike at Northern Colorado Hailstorm FC that proved to be the game-winner. He followed up with a second-half game-winner and insurance goal at home against FC Tucson that earned the Kickers the season sweep over the club that knocked them out of the 2021 USL League One Playoffs.

On the road at Central Valley Fuego FC on Aug. 20, down two goals, Terzaghi led the comeback as he calmly converted a second-half penalty that cut the host's lead in half before Matthew Bentley scored an equalizer in stoppage time.

Seven days later at City Stadium, Terzaghi combined with Jonathan Bolanos for two second-half goals that gave the Kickers an emphatic 3-0 win over defending league champions Union Omaha which was the largest league defeat the Nebraska-based team had experienced since becoming a team ahead of the 2020 season.

"Emi has scored goals over the past few years here in Richmond and we appreciate his talent and ability daily," Chief Sporting Officer and Head Coach Darren Sawatzky said. "We are happy for him with the personal accolades he receives. He is a humble worker who comes to work each day willing to help his teammates while continuing to hit the scoresheet.

"This past month has been a very competitive month in our league with good teams fighting for playoff spots. To have Emi, a known goalscorer, continue to score goals and help our group raise the level is great. We know Emi will fight with his teammates each game as we work through the end of the regular season."

The Kickers return to the road to take on defending USL League One champs Union Omaha, tonight, Wednesday, Sept. 14th. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. The Roos will then travel to Chattanooga to take on the Red Wolves before returning home to take on Central Valley Fuego on September 24th. The September 24th match will also be a celebration of Hispanic Heritage Night. Tickets for the match are available at richmondkickers.com/tickets.
