Tenacious Frisco Defense Makes Presence Known

September 20, 2021 - Indoor Football League (IFL) - Frisco Fighters News Release

FRISCO, Texas - The Fighters' defense stood on guard all season, and it wasn't one that opposing offenses looked forward to playing. It's hard to argue that it didn't all start up front for Frisco.

Defensive linemen Charles Williams and Malcolm Goines were the league's premier sack tandem. Williams wrestled the quarterback down a total of 11 times and surged into the backfield for 17 tackles for loss-both being the most in the IFL. Williams also tied for the second most forced fumbles (2) of any defender on the way to his selection as a first-team all-league honoree. In the postseason, Williams logged seven solo tackles and 13 total tackles, including two tackles for loss and a sack.

Goines chipped in with 4.5 sacks of his own (including one sack in the postseason) and was chosen as an All-IFL second-teamer. Donald Louis turned in nine tackles for loss, as well as logging the franchise's first-ever points with a safety in the season opener at Spokane. Louis earned a spot on the 2021 All-IFL rookie team.

Frisco's 27 total sacks ranked as the most of any team. It allowed a mere 763 ground yards, the least across the board. Only the Iowa Barnstormers conceded less total yardage than the Fighters did.

Linebacker Jacques Boudreaux yanked down 14 ballcarriers in the regular season (seven more in the postseason) and notched a pair of sacks in four games. Trey Harvey arrived later in the campaign and brought back an interception for a score against the Shock. He also contributed with four quarterback hits.

Defensive backs Joel Dullary and Sir'Vell Ford patrolled Frisco's defensive backfield, combining for 15 pass disruptions and three picks. Khalil Williams added eight breakups and an interception, along with being among the team's top tacklers.
