Tauros Draft Five
by Ken Oda
Minot, ND - The Minotauros added five players via the 2020 NAHL Entry Draft this afternoon. The draft completed the Tauros protected list, giving them 38 players. Coming into the draft the Tauros had 19 forwards, 11 defensemen, and three goaltenders already protected; that depth allowed the Hockey Ops staff to target players they believe can be difference makers as opposed to trying to fill holes. The result was a draft that saw the Tauros add five forwards with their five selections.
In the first round the Tauros grabbed Max Bogdanovich, a big forward who is already committed to NCAA DI Maine. The 6'3", 229 lb. forward was the captain of Cushing Academy's team in his senior year of high school while posting seven goals and 15 assists in 32 games.
The Tauros had a pair of picks in the second round, first at 12 they took Tyler Kostelecky, a 19 year old from Maple Grove, MN. Like Bogdanovich, Kostelecky is already NCAA DI committed to Arizona State. Last season for the Alberni Valley Bulldogs of the BCHL Kostelecky posted four goals and seven points in just 15 games. Prior to that he was the captain of Maple Grove High School where he posted 30 points in 24 games his senior year. Kostelecky also has some NAHL experience dressing in three games for the Minnesota Magicians after his senior year he posted an assist.
The Tauros second, second round pick, Joey Dosan, also brings size to the lineup at 6'5" and 216 lbs, and junior experience as well. Last season he posted a goal and five assists in the MJHL for the Steinbach Pistons. The season before that he played at Northstar Christian Academy in Minnesota where he was teammates with Tauros Tender Ben Strinden. While at Northstar Dosan he led the team in scoring with 74 points in 56 games and wore the captain's "C."
In the third round the Tauros went back to the Anaheim Jr. Ducks program which has produced current Tauros Joseph Harguindeguy and Cody Sherman, selecting Christopher Alexander. Alexander posted 53 points in 63 games for the Jr. Ducks including 29 goals; he also posted a whopping 254 penalty minutes.
In the fifth round the Tauros brought back Dylan Schneider. Schneider was a Tauro last season but played just one game after spending most of the season recovering from an injury that ended his season the year before. As his rehab progressed the Tauros sent him to Rochester in the NA3HL to get a few more games under his belt. While there he posted eight goals and five assists in seven games before the hockey season was cut short by the pandemic. In his last full season of hockey Schneider posted 49 points in 43 games for Shattuck St. Mary's U18 team.
