Tamika Catchings Honored as Torchbearer Award Recipient

September 28, 2020 - Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) - Indiana Fever News Release

INDIANAPOLIS - Indiana Fever Vice President of Basketball Operations and General Manager, Tamika Catchings, will be honored today as a 2020 Torchbearer Award recipient, presented by the Indiana Commission for Women.

"I am extremely proud and thankful to receive such an award that recognizes the hard work and dedication of so many powerful and influential women throughout our state," Catchings said. "It is an honor to share this recognition with so many women who already have, and continue to accomplish so much, in an effort to improve our respective communities, the state of Indiana and our country."

The Torchbearer Awards were created in 2004 by the Board of Commissioners of the Indiana Commission for Women to identify and recognize contributions made by Indiana women to their community, state and nation. ICW created the concept of the Torchbearer Awards to honor the many Hoosier women who have overcome or removed barriers to equality or to whose achievements have contributed to making the state of Indiana a better place in which to live, work and raise a family.

Torchbearers are Indiana's most prestigious recognition of women in the state. They are women who have stepped forward as leaders by breaking down barriers to women's full participation and who have become lasting legacies by overcoming immense challenges with courage, perseverance and compassion.

"Tamika is the quintessential leader and positive role model all Hoosiers can aspire to learn from," Fever President Dr. Allison Barber said. "We appreciate Tamika's commitment to the Indiana Fever franchise and for her selfless contributions to our community."

Catchings, who is also the recipient of the first ESPN Humanitarian Award in 2015 and a two-time Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award winner, will be honored at the Indiana Governor's Residence tonight at 4 p.m.
