Fort Lauderdale Strikers News Release

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (September 6, 2013) - The Fort Lauderdale Strikers (3-0-2, 9 points) will attempt to win their fourth consecutive game when they take on the San Antonio Scorpions (0-0-5, 0 points) on Saturday September 7th at 7:30 p.m. at historic Lockhart Stadium. The win streak started when the Strikers defeated the Scorpions 2-1 at Toyota Field in San Antonio on August 7th. The Strikers now sit in second place in the standings, a point behind the Carolina Railhawks.

While the Strikers defeated San Antonio in their last meeting, they will face a slightly different Scorpions squad, as they recently named assistant coach, Alen Marcina, as the interim head coach and announced that midfielder Javier Saavedra has been named a player-assistant coach. The Scorpions currently stand in last place in the league and are coming off a heartbreaking loss against Minnesota FC.

"This will be the hardest game we've had to date because we are now, for the first time, in the position of the favorites," said Strikers head coach G-nter Kronsteiner. "San Antonio is going to come in and play us very hard. We have to try to dominate this team, because when you are in last place, you tend to play in a different way than you do when you are in first place like when we played Carolina."

In their last match the Strikers defeated the top seeded Railhawks 1-0. Darnell King scored off a cross from Iván Guerrero and Richard Sanchez held on to his second clean sheet in a row as the won their third game in a row.

The three consecutive wins marks the highest win-streak for the Strikers since the leagues' rebirth in 2011. That year they had two, three-game win streaks, winning three in a row during the last month of the regular season, and again in the playoffs.

"We've worked hard since the season started and we've been playing well," said Strikers midfielder Manny Gonzalez. "This week, we've got to be prepared because it's going to be a hard game. San Antonio hasn't had things go their way, but they're still a tough team. We'll do our best to get the result and hopefully be in first place."

The Strikers are offering a special "4 for $54" promotion which includes four General Admission tickets, four hot dogs, four popcorn, and four sodas. Strikers Fan Zone is open from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. and features live music by classic rock cover band Latitude 26, a video game truck, inflatables and more.
