SAN DIEGO, California - The Strike Force have re-signed kicker Ernesto Lacayo to their 2020 Indoor Football League roster.
Lacayo earned Second Team All-IFL honors in 2019 after leading the IFL in PAT % with 94 percent and knocking down 10 field goals on a long of 53 yards. He scored over 12 points two different times including 10 in the Strike Force's inaugural 40-34 victory on April 14 versus the Cedar Rapids River Kings and earned Special Teams Player of the Week.
"Consistency is vital for our special teams and Ernesto has proven over his career that he has the ability to answer that call," said Strike Force General Manager Ryan Eucker. "He's a true professional and a great representative of our community, we're fortunate to add him as we build the future of indoor football in San Diego."
The eight-year pro first began his college career at the College of San Mateo and was a two-year captain before earning a scholarship to play at Hastings College in Nebraska. While there Lacayo was named All Nebrakasa Kicker and Special Teams Play of the Year by the Omaha World-Herald. He helped the Broncos reach the NAIA playoffs in 2009 along with setting records for field goals in a season (14), season and career PATs (39/39 and 64/64) and kicking points scored (81). Lacayo also sits second in career field goals with 25.
Before making his way to the Strike Force, Lacayo played for the Nebraska Danger (2011) and Louisiana Swashbucklers (2013). He then signed with the Wichita Wild in 2014 where he set an All-Arena/Indoor record of 30 field goals in a season en route to hitting the 51-yard game-winning field goal to advance the Wild into the CPIFL Championship. Following setting the CPIFL record of a 55-yard field goal, he played for the Wichita Force and Las Vegas Outlaws in 2015 and later earned an NFL workout the San Francisco 49ers that year. Lacayo also suited up for the Portland in 2016.
A graduate of Tennyson High School in Hayward (California), Lacayo still holds school records for longest field (47), punt (67) and touchbacks in a season (27).
