June 7, 2022 - California League (CalL)
Lake Elsinore Storm News Release

Game One:

The Storm completed their first doubleheader in three seasons today, taking home both victories and the series win.

In Game One, a classic pitching duel ensued. Victor Lizarraga would go 6 innings, the first time he has done so this season. He would finish with 4 strikeouts, 1 walk, 2 hits, and just 1 earned run. On the other side, the Inland Empire 66ers received their own near-quality start as Julio Goff went 5 innings, striking out 7, and allowing 2 earned runs.

The Storm would lead 2-1 for much of the game, scoring two on a double from Jared Alvarez-Lopez. That was until the top of the 7th inning, the final frame in today's doubleheader. The Storm would bring in Aaron Holiday to close out the game and he would proceed to load the bases with no outs. After securing two outs without a run crossing the plate, he would get into a battle with Adrian Plancencia that would lead to a game-tying walk.

After Alvarez-Lopez's double in the bottom of the 7th, the Storm wouldn't be able to bring him home. The game would go into extra innings and the Storm would escape the top of the 8th with a lineout to keep the automatic runner at 2nd. Storm reliever, Ben Miller, would then walk the subsequent batter and get the inning-ending double play.

After Max Ferguson walked, Lucas Dunn would come to the plate with no hits next to his name in the box score. He would change that quickly as he sent a dinger over the left field wall to win the game at 5-2.

Game Two:

The second game of the day was much different from the first.

The Storm would put 3 runs on the board in the first 2 innings, The first, on yet another bases-loaded walk. The second and third, on Max Ferguson's first home run of the season which barely crept over the right field wall. Lake Elsinore would continue to pour it on early on as they would ultimately score 9 runs through 4 innings.

Michael Green would also collect his first home run of the year on the second blast over the 36-foot, right field wall in consecutive days. A Charlis Aquino would collect an RBI on a double while singles from Carlos Luis and Michael Green would plate 2.

Meanwhile, Storm starting pitching would again completely stifle the 66ers offense. Jesus Gonzalez would go 5 innings, allowing 3 hits, striking out 6 batters, and keeping a 0 on the scoreboard. After the 4th inning, the home team would cruise to victory with three Storm pitchers allowing a combined 4 hits and 0 earned runs.

The Lake Elsinore Storm are now 27-18 and sit atop the California South League Division. They play the Quakes in Rancho Cucamonga on Tuesday in a series that could drastically affect the Division standings. The Storm will be back home on June 7th against the San Jose Giants.
