Guelph Storm News Release
A 5-0 shutout win on Friday and two shootout losses on Saturday and Sunday means the Guelph Storm have not lost in regulation since December 28th when they lost to the Oshawa Generals 3-1 on home ice. The Storm have also picked up at least a point in 13 of their last 14 games. On Friday night Guelph had five different scorers including Ryan Parent and Jeff Hayes who both scored their second of the season and Tim Priamo who scored his first short handed marker of the year. Saturday night the Storm traveled to Owen Sound for the back end of the home and home facing off against the Attack for the second time in as many nights. Mike McLean scored the only Storm goal in the shootout while Owen Sound forwards Trevor Lewis and Wayne Simmonds both scored for the Attack giving Owen Sound the extra point. Sunday afternoon the Erie Otters were in town for the third time this year. The Storm put up a four goal third period coming back from a 5-1 deficient to force overtime. A power play opportunity in the extra frame gave the Storm the chance to pick up two points and win the game, but they were unable to capitalize with the man advantage. Mike McLean scored the only Storm goal in the shootout while Zack Torquato, Nick Palmieri and Jordan Skellet found the back of the net to pick up the extra point for the Owen Sound Attack. With four of a possible six points this past weekend the Storm improved their record to 23-15-2-6 and currently sit third in the Western Conference, two points ahead of the Owen Sound Attack.
Guelph Storm Town Hall Meeting
After the game in Pub 101on Friday January 26th against the Barrie Colts, the Guelph Storm will host the second "Town Hall Meeting" of the 2006-07 season. Storm President Elliott Kerr will be on hand as well as Head Coach/GM Dave Barr, two Storm players and Facility Manager Rich Grau to answer any questions or concerns fans in attendance may have.
Guelph Storm Grand & Toy Player of the Week (Week ending January 21st)
Thomas McCollum- The rookie netminder won one of two starts during the week with a shootout loss in his second game. With a 5-0 shutout on Friday and a 2-1 loss on Saturday, McCollum recorded a goals against average of 0.48 and a save percentage of 0.985. The 17-year old also notched his third shutout of the season in the 5-0 white wash of the Storm's division rivals, the Owen Sound Attack on Friday night. Not eligible for the NHL Draft until the 2008 Draft, McCollum is currently ranked first in the OHL with a 2.21 goals against average, second in save percentage (0.923) and tied for second in shutouts with three.
Wednesday January 24th: Guelph Storm at Erie Otters, 7:30 pm
The Storm travel to Erie for the third time this year and second time in two weeks. The Otters just came off a shootout win over the Storm on Sunday afternoon at the GSEC. So far this year Erie has a winning record against the Storm winning three of the five contests, two of them with a score of 6-5 in the shootout. Wednesday's game is the last time these two teams will face off against each other in regular season play this year.
Friday January 26th: Barrie Colts at Guelph Storm, 7:30 pm
The Barrie Colts make their first and only visit to the GSEC this season on Friday night. The only other match-up between these two teams was on New Year's Eve when the Storm shut out the Colts on home ice beating them 3-0. Barrie is currently ranked second in the OHL, one point behind the leading London Knights. With a record of 32-12-0-1 the Colts sit first in the Central Division seven points ahead of the Mississauga Ice Dogs.
Sunday January 28th: Ottawa 67's at Guelph Storm, 3:00 pm
The Ottawa 67's travel to Guelph for their lone regular season visit to the GSEC on Sunday afternoon. The only other match-up between these two teams was back in October on the 15th when the Storm lost to the 67's in Ottawa 4-1. With a record of 20-21-0-3, Ottawa is currently in fourth place in the East Division, one point behind the Kingston Frontenacs.

For all Sunday games, including this Sunday, the Guelph Storm have introduced the $48 Family 4 Pack - over $20 worth of savings. Ryan Parent Jersey Chair
Tickets for the chance to win a one of a kind Ryan Parent Jersey Chair are on sale at all home Storm games. Tickets will be sold for $5.00 each at the merchandise kiosk behind section 116 as well as Gate #6. The ballots will be entered into a draw that will take place on Fan Appreciation Night March 16th against the Windsor Spitfires.
Team Signed Jerseys Auctioned off at Home Games
For all remaining home games the Guelph Storm will be auctioning off one adult and one youth team signed Crimson jersey. To put in a bid or for more information visit the merchandise kiosk behind section 116 or the Booster Club Table behind section 101.
Thomas McCollum Earns a Spot in the Guelph Storm Record Books
With the 5-0 win on Friday night against the Owen Sound Attack, Thomas McCollum has found himself a spot in the Guelph Storm record books. The 17 year old, not eligible for the NHL Draft until 2008, set a new Storm record for most shutouts by a rookie goalie in one season - formerly held by Dwight LaBrosse (2 - 2001/02) and old also tied the Storm record for number of wins by a rookie goalie in one season with 16 (Danny Taylor 2003/04).
This past weekend the rookie netminder posted a goals against average of 0.48 and a save percentage of 0.985 and notched his third shutout of the season.
McCollum, who will play for the Western Conference in the OHL All-Star Game on January 31st, is currently ranked first in the OHL with a 2.21 goals against average, second in save percentage (0.923) and tied for second in shutouts with three.
Nearly two thirds of the way through the season, McCollum is threatening to break two more Storm goaltending records including Adam Dennis' lowest single season goals against average of 2.50 and Ryan MacDonald/Chris Madden's shared record of most shutouts in one season with four.
