Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Lake Elsinore, CA - Despite swatting three solo homers, the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes fell short in Lake Elsinore, losing to the Storm by a final of 5-4 on Wednesday evening.
Darnell Sweeney connected in the ninth off of Storm closer Robert Lara, but that was as close as the Quakes would get. Lara rebounded to fan Noel Cuevas, before getting Angelo Songco to ground out to end the game, securing his first save of the year.
Wednesday's game went back-and-forth, as the teams traded runs in the first, as Sweeney scored on first-inning error, giving the Quakes a quick 1-0 lead for Garrett Gould.
Gould couldn't hold the lead though, as Travis Jankowski tripled to open the bottom of the inning, then scored on a groundball, tying the game at 1-1.
Rancho retook the lead in the fourth off of Storm starter Frank Garces (2-1), as O'Koyea Dickson smashed an opposite-field homer, giving them a 2-1 lead.
The Storm took the lead for good in the bottom of the inning though, as Gould gave up a pair of runs, making it a 3-2 game.
Gould (0-2) allowed another run in the fifth and was chased, as Yeison Ascencio's RBI single brought home Jace Peterson to make it 4-2.
Angelo Songco ripped his first long-ball of the year in the sixth, pulling Rancho to within a run at 4-3.
Quakes' reliever Craig Stem gave up an important run in the bottom of the eighth, as Lake Elsinore's Lee Orr doubled home Austin Hedges with two outs, making it a two-run game at 5-3.
Rancho (7-7) looks to snap their two-game skid on Thursday, as they return to LoanMart Field to host High Desert in a four-game series. Ross Stripling (0-0) will take on Jordan Shipers (1-1) in the series-opener.
Thursday is Thirsty Thursday, as fans can enjoy $2 domestic 16-oz drafts and 24-oz Pepsi products throughout the night. Tickets are available at (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com. We hope to see you very soon at LoanMart Field...Go Quakes!
