Storm Defeat Stampede 6-2

Kearney, NE. - The Tri-City Storm defeated the Sioux Falls Stampede by a final score of 6-2 Friday afternoon at Ralston Arena. Storm goaltender Jake Barczewski stopped 37 of 39 Stampede shots, and forward Joe Molenaar recorded a hat trick in the victory. In the win, Tri-City improved to 2-0 in the preseason.

Each team's offense provided a quick start with two goals coming in the opening minute. Anthony Romano gave Sioux Falls a lead 41 seconds into the game, but Tri-City answered 18 seconds letter with a goal from Brad Morrissey. Morrissey's goal was his first of the preseason and was assisted by Ronnie Attard, and Jake Crespi. The Stampede's Matt Cameron netted a goal at the 7:55 mark of the 1st period to give Sioux Falls its second lead of the game. Storm defenseman Ruben Rafkin scored with three minutes left in the 1st period to tie the game up at 2-2. Rafkin's goal was assisted by Jake Crespi and Brad Morrissey.

After four combined goals in the 1st period, Tri-City and Sioux Falls skated in a tie game for much of the 2nd period. The Storm's Joe Molenaar netted his first goal of the night with under thirty seconds to play in the period to give Tri-City a one goal lead. Ian Murphy and Cole McWard assisted on the goal.

Molenaar would strike again at the 1:12 mark of the 3rd period to record his 2nd goal of the night and give the Storm a 4-2 lead. Molenaar's 2nd goal of the game was assisted by Ian Murphy and Khristian Acosta. Joe Berg recorded his first goal of the preseason minutes later to give Tri-City a three goal lead. Ben Almquist picked up the lone assist on the Berg goal at 3:08 of the 3rd period. Joe Molenaar stretched the Storm lead to 4 goals at the 5:08 mark of the period as he scored his 3rd goal of the afternoon. The hat trick goal from Molenaar was the final of the game, and was assisted by Jake Crespi.
