Storm Chasers, Omaha Creative Institute Announce 50th Season Celebration Mural Contest

PAPILLION, NE - The Omaha Storm Chasers are partnering with Omaha Creative Institute for the Storm Chasers' 50th Season Celebration Mural, which will be installed at Werner Park on the exterior office wall facing the primary parking area. Grant applications are now being accepted via the Omaha Creative Institute's website.

"We are excited to be partnering with Omaha Creative Institute on this project," said Storm Chasers President and General Manager Martie Cordaro. "The Storm Chasers franchise has a long, illustrious history in the Omaha Metro dating back to 1969, and this public art initiative will be an inclusive way to celebrate and relive the memories of Rosenblatt Stadium, Werner Park and everything in between."

A $10,000 grant will be provided by Omaha Creative Institute to commission the 50th Season Mural. Any artist, collaborative duo, or artist collective maintaining a residence within the Omaha Metro Area, including Washington, Douglas, Sarpy and Saunders counties in Nebraska, as well as Pottawattamie, Mills and Harrison counties in Iowa, is eligible to apply. Applicants must be at least 21 years old and not enrolled in a degree-seeking program by January 1, 2018. An undergraduate or graduate degree is not required to apply.

Applications will be accepted until December 1, with the winner announced on January 31. A panel of local arts professionals, community leaders and Omaha Storm Chasers staff members will review applications and select the winner.

Work on the mural will is scheduled to begin on Opening Night at Werner Park on April 5, 2018, with the finished work planned for a June 8 unveiling. Fans attending Storm Chasers contests at Werner Park will be able to view the progress of the 50th Season Mural up to and after its completion.
