Stockton stay pleasant for Reign

April 16, 2009 - ECHL (ECHL)
Ontario Reign News Release

STOCKTON - There's no place like Stockton for the Reign. The team is a perfect five for five.

The Reign's 5-1 victory in front of 4,047 was largely due to its stellar defense, allowing just a single shot attempt on goalie Jeff Zatkoff in the first period. Coach Karl Taylor couldn't have been more pleased.

"We played well defensively and tried to keep them to the outside," Taylor said.

But backup goalie Bryan Pitton wasn't the only one who seemed inexperienced as a defensive breakdown by the Thunder led to the opening goal. While standing uncovered between the two circles, Reign rookie Dale Reinhardt received a sharp pass from teammate Jon Francisco and subsequently fired at the net. The 18-foot shot went above Pitton's left shoulder for his first playoff goal and a 1-0 lead with 11:03 left in the first.
