South Carolina Stingrays News Release
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays announced today that Head Coach and General Manager Rick Adduono and President Matthew Klidjian will both be leaving the organization to pursue opportunities elsewhere. Both Klidjian and Adduono will vacate their positions effective immediately.
Head Coach and General Manager Rick Adduono leaves his post after four seasons as Head Coach of the Rays. Adduono led the Stingrays to the teams second Kelly Cup Championship in 2001 and was the Assistant Coach of the team when it won the Cup in 1997. Adduono helped the Rays in to the post season in each of his four seasons as Head Coach and leaves the team with a career regular season record of 156-94-34.
Adduono's three-year agreement ends this off-season.
"I have tremendous respect for the organization but at this point I don't have a comment on the situation," explained Adduono. "I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish in my time with the Stingrays and look forward to whatever the future brings."
Klidjian came back to the Rays as the Team President in October of 2000, after a one-year stint with the Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer.
"After numerous conversations with the ownership group, we reached a decision that this move would be best for both parties," noted Klidjian. "The Stingrays organization and fans have meant so much to me and will always hold a special place near my heart. Although it will be tough to leave the Stingrays, I am excited to see what lies ahead for my family and eager to make the most of the next opportunity."
The franchise will make public its plans for the future at a later date.
