Steeves' Effort Not Enough as Ice Bears Fall at Home

March 30, 2024 - SPHL (SPHL)
Knoxville Ice Bears News Release

Mike Robinson made 29 saves for his third shutout of the year and the Knoxville Ice Bears fell to the Huntsville Havoc 3-0 at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum Saturday night.

The Ice Bears have lost nine straight. Huntsville has won three of four.

Brett Humberstone scored his first career goal with three seconds remaining in the first period to give the Havoc a 1-0 lead at the break. Humberstone collected the puck along the left wing and threw it back behind Knoxville's net to Dylan Stewart. Zane Steeves stopped Stewart's wraparound try, but Humberstone followed up the rebound in front of the crease and lifted the puck over Steeves to put Huntsville in front.

The Ice Bears had multiple chances to level the score in the second period, but Robinson stopped Anthony Cinato on a short-range shot from the right side and fought off a screened look by Cinato from the right circle. Dawson McKinney toe dragged through the slot to create an open look from in front, but Robinson got a piece of the puck to force it over the crossbar.

Steeves stopped a shot from in front by Benito Posa and kicked away a redirect in the slot to keep Knoxville within one after 40 minutes. He made a pair of back-to-back saves in the third when he stopped Buster Larsson from the right circle and immediately kicked away the follow-up attempt by Jeremy Gervais.

Huntsville made it 2-0 with a shorthanded goal by Robbie Fisher at 11:11 of the third. Kyle Clarke knocked the puck loose from the blue line and won the race to it in the right circle. He slid the puck across to Fisher, who buried it behind Steeves.

Matt Doran scored on an empty net in the final minute to conclude the scoring detail. Steeves finished with 27 saves for Knoxville.

Knoxville visits Roanoke on Friday. Huntsville welcomes Macon on Friday night.
