
Steenkamp Earns USL Honors

(Rochester, NY)... Rochester Raging Rhinos midfielder Lenin Steenkamp was named to the United Soccer League Team of the Week for Week 2 of the season earlier today. Portland Timbers forward Edwin Miranda was named the Overall Player of the Week in the First Division.
Steenkamp, the 5-11, 180-pound midfielder from Durban, South Africa, played the full 90 minutes in the Rhinos' 1-0 loss to the Vancouver Whitecaps on April 30th. Steenkamp had two shots and five fouls in the match. This is the seventh time in his career that Steenkamp has earned USL weekly honors. In his 10th season with the organization, Steenkamp is the Rhinos all-time leader in games played (204), games started (178), minutes played (16,284), assists (29), shots (375) and fouls (265). Steenkamp is second in points (97) and third in goals (34).
Portland Timbers midfielder Edwin Miranda paced his squad to a 2-2 tie at home against the Minnesota Thunder Friday night, assisting on both first half goals. The following night, he stepped in as a defender to help lead the Timbers to a 2-1 road win over the rival Seattle Sounders on Saturday. The second-year midfielder also scored in the Timbers' season opener.
