Chicago Steel News Release

GENEVA, ILLINOIS - For the fourth consecutive season, the Chicago Steel have partnered with the Geneva Academic Foundation and FONA International for a special event designed to raise money for Geneva Community Unit School District 304. The first-place Steel will host A Night for Geneva Students presented by FONA International with a special jersey auction during the game against the Madison Capitols at 7:05 pm this Friday, January 31st to benefit Geneva schools.

The Steel will take the ice wearing specially designed jerseys to be auctioned off in a silent auction during the night's game action at Fox Valley Ice Arena. After the game, Steel players will deliver the jerseys to winning bidders and offer to autograph the sweaters and take photos.

The first-time sweaters are black with a classic design of STEEL in diagonal letters that appear to be made of metal plating from the right shoulder to the left hip. In addition to GAF patches on both shoulders, the jerseys include a FONA International patch on the left chest with red and silver striping around the elbows and hips.

"We are once again so excited to partner with FONA and the Chicago Steel again this season," said Geneva Academic Foundation Board Member Kimberly Luthin. "GAF loves this opportunity to fundraise for our Geneva students in a way the whole family can enjoy! It's such a great community event with FONA, who has always been so generous to GAF, as our sponsor again

this year. We look forward to a great night of hockey, fundraiser and fun!"

For the fourth straight season, FONA International has agreed to sponsor the game and the jerseys to ensure that all silent auction proceeds will benefit GAF. The flavor company, based in Geneva, actively promotes science education in the community through its "Discover FONA" program, teaching students about food and flavor science.

"FONA is truly honored to support Geneva Academic Foundation by sponsoring Friday's Chicago Steel game," said Joe Slawek, FONA's Founder and CEO. "We love and treasure our local community and GAF is an essential part of our shared future."

GAF has made available a special $15 White Zone Ticket with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the non-profit. Fans may purchase these tickets by visiting steelgroups.com and entering password "GAF2020".

Over the past three seasons, the Steel and FONA International have helped raise over $13,000 for GAF through a combination of auction proceeds and ticket sales. Last season's event on March 16, 2019 raised over $5,000.

"We're proud of our affiliation with a great non-profit in GAF and a philanthropic business partner in FONA International as we continue a tradition that benefits Geneva students," said Steel President Dan Lehv.

Following the Friday night clash against Madison, the Steel return to action on Sat., Feb., 1st for Star Wars Night against the Des Moines Buccaneers. The 7:05 pm game is a Raising Cane's Kid's Day, a ticket deal for children ages 12 and younger that includes a red zone ticket, a Steel 20th season drawstring bag and Raising Cane's combo card for just $10.
