Tacoma Stars News Release

KENT, WA. - The San Diego Sockers (14-1) came to the accesso ShoWare Center Sunday night and completed a home and home sweep of the Tacoma Stars (6-8) with a 9-5 win. With the win, San Diego pushes their league-best win streak to 12 games.

The first quarter did not give up the fact that 14 goals would be scored in the match as the Sockers finished the frame with a 1-0 lead on Travis Pittman's 7th goal of the season.

After a blue card was shown to San Diego's Cesar Cerda, Tacoma leveled the match 1-1 on a power play goal by Joseph Cairel. The Sockers then rattled off three unanswered goals by Luis Ortega, Brandon Escoto and Juan Gonzalez to take a 4-1 lead to the locker room.

Six goals were scored in the third quarter beginning with Joey Gjertsen's first of two goals on the night to cut San Diego's lead to 4-2. Three straight goals from the Sockers made it 7-2 with 7:33 left in the third. Guerreo Pino, Escoto, and Christian Gutierrez combined to give San Diego the five-goal cushion.

Mike Ramos netted a goal with 5:00 on the clock and Nick Perera brought the Stars within three just before the end of the quarter at 7-4.

Gjertsen knocked in a power play goal with 8:22 remaining for Tacoma's final score of the game. The Stars brought on the sixth attacker and the Sockers added goals from Ortega and Christian Segura to reach the 9-5 final.
