FARGO, ND - The Lincoln Stars (1-2-1) dropped the first game of their three-game series against the Fargo Force (5-1-1), losing 4-0 at Scheels Arena on Thursday night.
Jeremy Davidson drew first blood shorthanded for the Force with under thirty seconds to go in the second period following a scoreless first stanza.
Fargo secured the victory thanks to three goals late in the third period separated by under three minutes. Mason Salquist, Tristan Broz and Casey McDonald lit the lamp for the home team.
Ryan Ouellette kept the Stars alive until the dying stages of the game, stopping 25 of 29 Force shots. Brennan Boynton picked up his second shutout of the season, making 25 saves.
Lincoln failed to score a power-play goal for the fourth consecutive game; the Stars are 0-for-16 on the PP to start the 2020-21 season. Fargo scored on their lone chance with the man-advantage. Spencer Smith and Tony Follmer picked up fighting majors, both dropping the gloves with Austin Wong throughout the game.
