Stars Add Netminder Samuel Hlavaj
Lincoln, NE - The Stars have added Samuel Hlavaj to their crease as the 17-year old Slovak joins the Stars fresh from the World Junior Championship. The towering, 6-5 netminder played in five games for Team Slovakia, highlighted by a 32 save performance in a 2-1 loss to Team USA. Previously this season, he's played in seven games for Team Slovakia U20 team in Slovakia and Slovakia 2.
"He's a calm, confident goaltender," said Stars head coach Cody Chupp. "I watched his games at the World Junior Championship and he was just that. In practice, what we've noticed is he gets himself to the right spot, he gets there early, and he lets pucks hit him. He makes his saves look simple. We're excited about Samuel, we're excited he's here. He's going to get an opportunity to play some minutes for us. We expect him to be a difference-maker. He's ranked high on a lot of people's lists with the NHL draft this coming summer. It's an opportunity for him to get some North American experience and showcase himself in front of NHL scouts every night. We're excited about him and he's excited about the opportunity. Our fans should be excited to see him in the next couple of weeks play quite a few minutes."
Hlavaj and the Stars will look to continue their strong start to the new year with three games in three days this week. Tomorrow and Friday, they'll host a pair of games with the Des Moines Buccaneers, both set for 7:05 pm CST at the Ice Box. They'll travel to Dubuque on Saturday to take on the Fighting Saints at 7:05 pm to close out the weekend.

On Sunday, January 20th, Faith & Family Day returns to The Ice Box for another matinee for an afternoon of faith and community as well as a post-game skate with the Stars. A portion of ticket sales for Faith & Family Day will benefit Food for the Hungry, a faith-based mission to build clean water solutions in third-world countries. Last year, the Stars and the Lincoln Stars Foundation helped to raise over $230,000 toward clean water initiatives in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
