Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Calgary, Alberta -- Brandon Wheat Kings' Season Ticket holder and the local manager of Sport Chek in Shoppers Mall, received an early Christmas gift Wednesday afternoon when he learned that he had won this year's Western Hockey League "Celebration of the Seasons" grand prize draw.
Wayne Evans, a 47-year old native of North Bay, Ontario, has won a World Junior Hockey Championship package that includes four medal round tickets as well as the semi-finals at this year's Tournament, set to begin on Boxing Day in Vancouver with Team Canada facing off against Finland.
"I was ecstatic to hear the news this afternoon," says Evans, who has been with Sport Chek for the past twelve years. "I hope to have the opportunity to see Team Canada go for another gold medal."
Canada enters this year's event as defending champions after defeating Russia in last year's gold medal final that was played in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
Evans was one of over 15,000 WHL fans to enter this year's contest, held in arenas across western Canada and the Pacific Northwest United States during the month of December. Evans entered at the Friday, December 9th game between Brandon and Medicine Hat at the Keystone Centre.
The contest was part of a December WHL promotion, presented by Kal Tire and Meyers Norris Penny, inviting fans to watch LIVE games from December 27th to 29th on the world wide web. For free broadcast connection information, fans can visit www.whl.ca (Access code: whllivestream)
Sport Chek is the Forzani Group's super store as it is the only national big box sporting good retailer in Canada.
