
Spooner Named to World U20's Invites

The Kingston Frontenacs are pleased to announce that centreman Ryan Spooner has been invited to the World Junior U20 try-outs today by Hockey Canada. Spooner, was one of 41 players named to Canada's National Junior Team Sport Chek Selection Camp, Dec. 10-14, 2011 at the WinSport Canada Athletic & Ice Complex in Calgary.
Spooner, playing in his second season with the Black and Gold has had a tremendous month of November scoring 7 goals and adding 11 assists in just 10 games. Five of Spooner's goals amazingly came short handed. He was named OHL and CHL Player of the Week ending November 13th when he had an outstanding 4 goals and 6 helpers in 3 games, along with a +8 rating. During that week, he represented Team OHL against visiting Team Russia in the Subway Super Series. On Thursday November 10, Spooner had 3 helpers and was +4 and then on Monday the 14th, he was named the OHL's Player of the Game for his goal and 2 assists.
Spooner was drafted by the Boston Bruins in the second round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and over the past two seasons has been one of the last or the last player cut by the NHL Club. Last year split between the Frontenacs and the Peterborough Petes, #23 accumulated 35 goals and 81 points in 64 games.
The 2012 IIHF World U20 Juniors will take place in Edmonton and Calgary starting on Boxing Day December 26th until January 5th, 2012
The Frontenacs take to the ice for two games at home this weekend, as the Belleville Bulls visit Friday for the Frontenac's Annual Teddy Bear Toss at 7:30, while on Sunday afternoon at 2:00, the Windsor Spitfires visit the Limestone City for our Clothes for Kids charity fundraiser. Tickets may be purchased on-line or at the K-Rock Centre box office. Purchase a ticket for Friday's game and get Sunday's at half off.
