Spitfires Fall to Flint 4-3 in OT

March 7, 2020 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL) - Windsor Spitfires News Release

The Spitfires travelled to Flint for a matchup with the Firebirds. The Spitfires were 3-1-1 against the Firebirds this season. This was the 6th and final matchup of the regular season. However, this could be a potential playoff series.

In the first period, the Spitfires were buzzing and struck first on the powerplay. Cuylle got his 22nd on the season, and Foudy drew the lone assist. The Spitfires lead 1-0 after twenty minutes of play. Shots were 17-6 in favour of the Spits.

In the second frame, it was all Flint. They had a lot of shots and ended up tying the game seventeen minutes into the period to tie the game at 1. With just twelve seconds left in the period, Flint scored to take a 2-1 lead after forty minutes of play.

In the third period, the Spitfires tied it up at 2 when Afanasyev sniped his 30th of the season on the powerplay. Just four minutes later, the Spitfires scored again to retake the lead 3-2. Corcoran got his 19th on the season, and Foudy got the assist. Only a minute and a half later, the lead was no longer when Flint scored to tie it at 3. Sixty minutes solved nothing, so we were off to overtime.

In the overtime period, Flint scored at 2:52 to take the game 4-3 (OT).

The Spitfires' next game is Sunday, March 8th, 2020, when the Kitchener Rangers come to town for a rivalry matchup on Sportsnet. Puck drop is scheduled for 2:09 pm.
