Spencer Arroyo Promoted to Charlotte from Birmingham

(Fort Mill, SC) - LHP Spencer Arroyo, who was 6-4 with a 3.58 ERA in 18 games for the Birmingham Barons this season, has been promoted to the Charlotte Knights and will start tonight's game in Norfolk against the Tides. Arroyo will take the place of tonight's originally scheduled starter Andre Rienzo, who was placed on the Temporary Inactive List. Rienzo was chosen to play in the 15th Annual SiriusXM Futures Game, which is set for Sunday, July 14 at Citi Field in New York.

Arroyo, 24, last pitched for the Double-A Barons on Sunday, July 7 and threw seven innings of two-run ball in a no-decision against Mississippi. The California native last won a game on June 27 against Huntsville. Left-handed batters are hitting just .185 (20-for-108) against him this season.

In 2012, Arroyo split time between Winston-Salem (A+) and Birmingham (AA) and posted a combined mark of 11-7 with a 4.46 ERA. His 11 wins were tied for second-most among White Sox farmhands.

Arroyo was originally selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 31st round of the 2008 draft. He was signed by the White Sox as a free agent on April 19, 2010.

Rienzo is 6-6 with a 4.47 ERA in 18 starts for the Knights this season. The Brazilian native has been solid in July - going 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA in two starts. In his last outing - back on Sunday, July 7, Rienzo tossed the first nine-inning complete game of his career. He allowed just two runs on five hits in the 5-2 win over Norfolk.

The Knights will play game one of a three-game series tonight at Harbor Park in Norfolk, VA. First pitch of tonight's game is set for 7:05 p.m. and the "Voice of the Charlotte Knights" Matt Swierad will have the call beginning at 7:00 p.m. on 94.3 FM and 1340 AM WHRI. The Knights return home to Knights Stadium on Thursday, July 18 to open a quick-two-game homestand with the Norfolk Tides.
