Southern Conference Baseball Tournament Pass On Sale
Greenville, SC - In 2009, Fluor Field will once again be the site of an abundance of collegiate baseball games, including the Southern Conference Baseball Tournament. The SoCon Tournament has been held in Charleston for the past 19 years, and will be making its debut at Fluor Field from May 20th-24th.
Drive Co-Owner and President, Craig Brown, commented on the SoCon Tournament, saying, "We're excited to have this important baseball tournament taking place here in the Upstate at last and are happy for the Wofford and Furman alumni in the region, as well as for Upstate baseball fans in general." Brown added, "The strong support this community, and our SoCon schools are sure to give this tournament will speak volumes about the great baseball legacy this region enjoys, and will confirm the wisdom of the Southern Conference leadership's decision to hold the tournament in the Upstate."
The Southern Conference features 11 participating schools in baseball, which span South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama. Formed in 1921, the Southern Conference ranks as the fourth oldest major college athletic conference in the United States.
This year's tournament features two Upstate universities who have each won the conference championship in the last four years, the Wofford Terriers in 2007 and the Furman Paladins in 2005. A different university has won the tournament each of the past seven years, including Elon University, which won its first conference championship in 2008. The Phoenix are seeking to be the first school to win back-to-back conference championships since the Citadel did so in 1998-99.
Available exclusively for the SoCon Tournament, will be the "SoCon Tournament Pass." For just $85, the SoCon Tournament Pass will allow fans entrance into Fluor Field for all 14 games over five days, as well as a daily, full-service food offering. This unique pass can be purchased by calling the Fluor Field Box Office at (864) 240-4528 or visit www.GreenvilleDrive.com.
On Wednesday, May 20th and Thursday, May 21st - the first two days of the tournament - there will be four games played each day, with the first game at 9:00 AM and the final game at 9:00 PM. The double elimination tournament will continue on Friday with a pair of games, with first pitch times slated for 3:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
Saturday will feature two more games as well, with the possibility of four, beginning at 9:00 AM before the Champion is crowned on Sunday at 2:00 PM. The SoCon champion earns an automatic entry into the NCAA field of 64, with hopes of making it to Omaha, Nebraska for the College World Series.
"The Southern Conference is known for having high level of talent in baseball," added Drive General Manager Mike deMaine. "We're looking forward to seeing these promising scholar athletes have the chance to play at award-winning Fluor Field, while their school's alumni and fans enjoy the unique amenities and pleasure our downtown and ballpark have to offer."
