KANSAS CITY, MO. - Sounders FC 2 (9-18-4, 31 points) came up short in a 2-1 loss to Swope Park Rangers (17-8-7, 58 points) on Wednesday evening at Children's Mercy Victory Field. Currently in 12 th place in the Western Conference, S2 continues its three-match road trip on Sunday afternoon to close the 2017 campaign at Oklahoma City Energy FC (3:00 p.m. PT / Live-streamed on SoundersFC.com).
In the 28 th minute, midfielder Zach Mathers opened the scoring with a free-kick goal from 25 yards out. In the 54th minute, the host side took the lead on a penalty kick after Seattle defender Steven Whyte was whistled for a sliding challenge in the area.
Miller kept the score at 2-1 when made an impressive save from the ground in the 73rd minute, but S2 was unable to find an equalizer.
