Skinner Named to CIBC Canada Russia Series

LETHBRIDGE, AB -The Western Hockey League, in partnership with the Canadian Hockey League, Tuesday announced the roster for the 2017 CIBC Canada Russia Series and Lethbridge Hurricanes goaltender Stuart Skinner has been named one of two goaltenders. The tournament is scheduled to take place on November 6th in Swift Current and November 7th in Moose Jaw. The WHL will host Games 1 and 2 of the six game series while the Ontario Hockey League will host Games 3 and 4 before the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League welcomes the two teams for Games 5 and 6. Skinner, 18, originally the 17th overall pick in the 2013 WHL Bantam Draft is in his fourth season with the Hurricanes. He was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the third round (78th overall) in the 2017 National Hockey League Entry Draft. Skinner, who hails from Edmonton, was also one of four goaltenders invited to the World Junior summer showcase in hopes of making the 2018 World Junior team.

The 6'4 ", 200-pound goaltender has appeared in all eight games this season for the Hurricanes posting a 4-4-0-0 record with a 3.06 goals against average (GAA) and a .912 save percentage (.912.). Skinner is the all-time franchise leader in games played by a goaltender (159) and saves (4,712). He has a career record of 78-55-6-5 with a 3.27 GAA and a .909 SV% in his four season.

The announcement marks the second consecutive season that a Hurricanes player has been named to the CIBC Canada Russia Series after Giorgio Estephan dressed last year for the WHL. Last season, Estephan was the first Hurricane to be represented in the Series since 2010 when Carter Ashton suited up. The Hurricanes are back in action on Friday when they begin a season-long seven game home-stand at the ENMAX Centre against the Swift Current Broncos before the Medicine Hat Tigers pay a visit on Sunday.
