May 10, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Everett Silvertips News Release

EVERETT, WA. - Stuart Skinner recorded his fifth shutout of the postseason on 32 saves and the Swift Current Broncos snuck past the Everett Silvertips, 1-0 in Game 4 of the Rogers WHL Championship Series before 5,081 fans at Angel of the Winds on Wednesday night. Swift Current leads the best of seven series, 3-1.

Carter Hart put up 18 saves in net as the two teams battled through the fourth consecutive one-goal game of the Championship Series.

The Silvertips will attempt to avoid elimination on Friday, in Game 5 at 7:05 PM PT (Fox Sports 1380 / WHL Live) in downtown Everett - marking the final time the Tips will play on home ice for the entire 2017-18 season (the Championship Series will move to Swift Current for Games 6-7, if necessary). Tickets are still available which includes a Hockey Happy Hour offer for a game ticket and beverage for as low as $29 at http://everettsilvertips.com/playoffs.

The Tips will attempt their second comeback from a 3-1 deficit in franchise history, previously accomplishing the feat in the 2004 Western Conference Final. If the Tips win Game 5, the series will continue on Sunday for Game 6 in Swift Current - where the Tips hold an 8-1 playoff record on the road.

The beginning of the first was rather uncharacteristic for the Silvertips as two back-to-back penalties led to a 41 second 5-on-3 penalty kill for the Tips. The penalty kill was particularly impressive as the Tips did not allow a single shot through 3:41 of consecutive penalty kill time. The first was a tight defensive battle and the teams were kept to very few shots as Everett had 8 and Swift Current had 4.

The parade of penalties continued throughout the second period as the Silvertips had their opportunity on the power play 10 seconds into the period; the power play went to 4-on-3 at 1:55 as the teams exchanged roughing penalties and 4-on-4 hockey ensued when the original Broncos' penalty expired. The Tips had 3 additional power plays in the second period but were unable to capitalize on the man advantage. The last power play that the Tips had generated the best chances and had the most shots on net, but they were unable to get the puck past Skinner. Carter Hart made an impressive shorthanded breakaway stop on Beck Malenstyn.

Unfortunately the tie game came to an end at 14:35 of the third period with a power play goal by Colby Sissons to make it 1-0 Broncos; this was the first and only power play goal that the Broncos have had in the entire series as Sissons fired a snap shot that deflected through traffic.

The third period saw some good opportunities and chances for the Silvertips but they were unable to breakthrough. The entirety of the third period was played 5-on-5. A timeout was called at the 18 minute mark by the Silvertips. At 18:10 Carter Hart was pulled for the sixth attacker. The best chance for the Silvertips came from Garrett Pilon in the dying seconds but he was unable to get the puck over Skinner's pads.

Notes: Silvertips scratches included Jameson Murray, Dawson Butt, Ty Westgard, Kyle Walker, Bronson Sharp and Ronan Seeley ... Carter Hart made 18 saves ... the game marked the first time the Tips fell in this postseason for a Game 4 situation ... Pilon led the Tips with five shots on net ... they outshot the Broncos, 32-19.
