Silvertips Select 13 Prospects in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft

EVERETT, Wash. - The Everett Silvertips (@WHLSilvertips), five-time U.S. Division champions of the Western Hockey League, concluded the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft with Silvertips general manager Garry Davidson, director of player personnel Bil La Forge, and staff making a total of 13 selections of players born in 2002.

In total, the Silvertips selected eight forwards, four defensemen, and one goaltender spanning 12 rounds. The Silvertips had six selections in the first five rounds.

"Sticking to our process, we came away from the draft extremely fulfilled with the players we targeted and excited for their development potential," said Davidson. "Ronan Seeley was a defenseman who meets all of our criteria, we ranked extremely high on our list, and were tremendously excited to choose when our first round selection came around. In total with eight forwards, four defensemen and one goaltender, we're thrilled with all of our positional situations. I'm very pleased with the effort of Bil La Forge and our scouting staff. They deserve high marks for a great job again."

With their first round pick at 20th overall, the Silvertips selected defenseman Ronan Seeley, a 2002-born blueliner who was fourth in the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League, led the Red Deer Rebels (Bantam AAA) defensemen and was third overall in club scoring with 38 points in 35 games, earning the club's Most Outstanding Defenseman honors.

His 30 assists were third on the program and he put up six points in five postseason games with Red Deer, who went 21-9-6 and finished second in the Ram South division.

"The feeling from today is pretty ecstatic," said La Forge. "It was a great day for our organization and the hard work all year long from our scouts, Garry, and Zoran Rajcic. We continue to aim for development of players who can contribute with offensive instincts, skating ability, and answer challenges with a great compete level. We added a remarkable goaltender who can significantly strengthen our depth in that area. Overall, we're very satisfied with the selections from today and look forward to seeing our prospects in August, when they can first experience the quality of our program and community in training camp."
