SIGRIST AND VALA AT WORLD JUNIORS, SCHMIEMANN JOINS BLAZERS

Kamloops, BC - The Kamloops Blazers have two players participating at the 2018 World Junior Hockey Championships in Buffalo, NY. Defenseman Ondrej Vala is competing with the Czech Republic and forward Justin Sigrist is with Switzerland.

This is Vala's second consecutive year playing for the Czech Republic. The 19-year-old defenseman has seven goals, 13 assists and 20 points in 31 games this season. He was signed by the Dallas Stars in September 2016.

Sigrist is in his first season with the Blazers. The 18-year-old has a goal and two assists this season. He has competed for Switzerland at international events in the past, but this will be his first World Junior tournament.

With the absence of two players, the Blazers have added 16-year-old defenseman Quinn Schmiemann to the roster. The 6'2" and 175lb native of Wilcox, SK started the 2017-18 season with the Blazers suiting up for one game.

He has since joined the Notre Dame Hounds of the Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League. He has had a great season with nine goals, 21 assists and 30 points in 23 games.

The Blazers return to the ice for practice on December 26th. They will play in Kelowna on Wednesday, December 27th and be home to Kelowna on Friday, December 29th.
