Tucson Sidewinders News Release
Tucson, AZ - The Sidewinders opened up an abbreviated four game set with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox with a 6-4 win on Saturday night.
It took until the bottom of the fourth before either team opened up the scoring. With two runners on, back-to-back doubles by SS Matt Erickson and C Mark Johnson plated three runs.
Colorado Springs got on the board in the top of the seventh. With runners on second and third, LHP Randy Choate beaned two batters to give the Sky Sox a run. 2B Jayson Nix tied the game at 3-3 with a two-run single. Choate then caught Nix leaning off first base, but 1B Chris Carter dropped the ball on the pick off attempt enabling a runner to score from third.
Tucson came back with three runs in the bottom half of the frame to give the team a 6-4 lead. The Sidewinders loaded the bases with nobody out. After a strikeout by RF Carlos Quentin, Carter brought three runs home on a bizarre play. Carter singled to right to plate two runners, but an errant throw from the cutoff man bought a third run home. Carter tried to advance all the way to third on the play but was thrown out.
Quentin started the game on a rehab assignment. He went 0-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts.
