Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The Biscuits (14-21) lost their third-consecutive game, suffering another defeat to the Biloxi Shuckers (23-12), 6-4, at Riverwalk Stadium on Friday night. Biscuits' reliever Travis Ott surrendered three runs in the ninth inning allowing for the Biloxi comeback.
Montgomery was powered early by their bats. Tampa Bay Rays' number 12 prospect Nick Solak ignited the Biscuits' offense with a solo home run in the opening frame, extending his on-base streak to 22 games. Catcher Danny De La Calle added to Montgomery's lead by muscling an offering over the left-center field wall with two runners on for his first Double-A home run.
Dalton Moats, starting for the injured Benton Moss, adopted a four-run lead as he returned to the mound in the third. Moats was relieved by Curtis Taylor, who was recalled from A+ Charlotte on Thursday. Taylor recorded two strikeouts and allowed a run in 3.1 innings during his Double-A debut.
Despite Shuckers' starter Kodi Medeiros battling control problems throughout, the 21-year old kept the South Division leaders within striking distance. Medeiros hurled four shutout innings after Montgomery scored four runs early.
In the ninth, Jake Gatewood doubled to begin the Biloxi rally. Tyler Heineman followed up with an RBI-double prior to a Blake Allemand RBI-triple. Clint Coulter broke the 4-4 tie with a two-run home run off Reece Karalus.
The Biscuits continue their 10-game homestand on Saturday night when hosting the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. Genesis Cabrera (4-2) is scheduled to start the series for Montgomery. The southpaw is looking for his fifth-straight win and has posted a 1.95 ERA since April 21.
The upcoming five-game series includes Military Appreciation Night with MAX Fireworks on Saturday, May 12, and Rays' Baseball Giveaway on Sunday, May 13.
