Muskegon Lumberjacks News Release

LINCOLN, Nebraska - The Muskegon Lumberjacks could not match the energy and passion of their opposition tonight as the Lincoln Stars would score the first five goals of the game that included three in the first period to help cruise to a 5-2 home victory tonight at the Lincoln Icebox Arena.

The Stars (30-19-3, 63 points) would strike quickly as the home fans were in the midst of taking their seats just 11 seconds into the game with a strike by Dominik Shine for his 19th goal of the season to make it 1-0 Lincoln. Zachary Aston-Reese and Jimmy DeVito were credited with the assists on the Shine tally. Shortly after at the 6:25 mark, Lincoln would make it 2-0 on the power play with Aston-Reese's 5th goal of the season that was helped by Mike McKee and Shine. Later in the opening frame at the 15:49 mark, Phillip Marinaccio would get his 18th of the season from Luke Johnson to make it 3-0 Stars.

Lincoln would own the shot battle at 14-7 over Muskegon after one period of play, and Lumberjacks Goaltender Kevin Lindskoug (21-12-6) was pulled right after Lincoln's third goal after allowing three goals on ten shots.

The Stars would increase their lead to 4-0 at the 12:58 mark of the second period with Will Suter's 10th goal of the season from Riley Bourbonnais and Paul LaDue. Lincoln would take that lead into the second intermission still outshooting Muskegon, 23-17.

Almost halfway through the third period at the 8:45 mark, the Stars would continue to apply the offensive pressure with Bourbonnais' team-leading 23rd goal of the season that was helped by Justin Woods and Eric Schurhamer to make it 5-0 Lincoln.

The Lumberjacks (27-16-10, 64 points) would erase the shutout at the 13:50 mark of the third period with Riley Alferd's 5th goal of the season as he tipped a point shot from Rasmus Bengtsson through Stars Goaltender Jackson Teichroeb's (12-10-2) five-hole to make it 5-1 Lincoln. Michael Brodzinski was credited with the secondary assist on the Alferd goal. A few minutes later at the 16:20 mark, Brodzinski would wrist home his 13th goal of the season at the top of the circles that went unassisted to make it 5-2 Lincoln.

The Lumberjacks would dominate the shot battle in the third period, 11-4, and win the shot battle by a slim 28-27 margin, but Lincoln would not allow any more goals and cruise to the home victory.

The Stars were led offensively by three players with two points each in Aston-Reese (one goal and one assist), Bourbonnais (one goal and one assist), and Shine (one goal and one assist). Jackson Teichroeb would stop 26 of 28 shots for the Stars in the home victory, while Lumberjacks Goaltender Jordan Uhelski would stop 15 of 17 shots after relieving Lindskoug late in the first period. Brodzinski would lead the Lumberjacks offense with a goal and an assist in the road loss. The Lumberjacks fall to 1-4-3 against the Western Conference this season.
