Sharks look to extend win streak to three
JACKSONVILLE - The Jacksonville Sharks (3-3) face the Maine Mammoths (1-4) for the second time this season, but this time, the game will be in Jacksonville, Florida at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena. The last time these two teams met, the Sharks went up to Portland, Maine and defeated the Mammoths 48-31 in the Cross Insurance Arena. The Sharks look to go 4-3 this season, 2-0 versus the Mammoths, and continue their win streak by winning three in a row. A win this weekend is needed for the Sharks, especially if they want to get above this .500 mark and work their way towards the top of the league.
Last week against the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks, the Sharks dominated the Steelhawks offense, as defensive lineman Jermiah Price totaled six tackles and four sacks in the game. Newly added defensive lineman Silverberry Mouhon impressed the crowd as he had 3.5 tackles, 1.5 sacks, and one fumble recovery returned for a 13-yard touchdown. Linebacker Charlie Hunt stole the show, coming down with two interceptions returned for 59 yards and one touchdown, and totaled three tackles.
For the offense, quarterback Adrian McPherson threw a deep ball to wide receiver Kendall Thompkins for a 40 yard touchdown on the second play of the game to give the Sharks an early lead and show who was going to control the game from the start. McPherson ended up 7-of-17 for 98 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Wide receiver Chris Gilchrist received the ball the most for the Sharks with three receptions for 41 yards and one touchdown.
The last time the Sharks and Mammoths faced each other, McPherson looked comfortable as he was 21-of-29 for 215 yards and three touchdowns. The Sharks powerful offense got things going in the first match-up and looks to continue their offensive success this weekend in front of the home crowd.
The Mammoths faced the current number one team in the league last week and lost by one point in overtime, 43-44. Their kicker, Henry Nell, scored 19 of the Mammoths 43 points last week, 13 of which were in the first half. Keep an eye on the Sharks Special Teams as they try to find ways to stop Nell.
The Sharks face the Mammoths a total of four times this season, this being the second time. This weekend's game will be at the Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena for Military Appreciation Night on Saturday at 7:00 pm (ET). The game will be streamed on Youtube Live, a link to the stream will be posted on www.facebook.com/jaxsharks
