Seattle Reign FC News Release
SEATTLE - With a flurry of upcoming friendlies and World Cup qualifying matches happening on the international circuit, seven Seattle Reign FC players have been called up by their respective countries.
Jess Fishlock: Fishlock will join the Welsh team for two World Cup qualifying matches. The first, on Thursday, June 7, pits Wales against Bosnia-Herzegovina. Wales then plays Russia on Tuesday, June 12. Both matches are in Wales, and will be broadcast by BBC.
Wales is currently second in Group 1 with 11 points, just two behind England, the group leader. Qualifying for the 2019 World Cup would give the country its first ever berth in the tournament.
Nahomi Kawasumi and Rumi Utsugi: The two Japanese players on Reign FC's roster will suit up for their country on June 10 in a friendly match vs. New Zealand. The match will be played in Wellington, New Zealand and broadcast live on Sky Sport. This will be the first time Japan and New Zealand have played since 2015. Japan has already qualified for the World Cup with their victory in the championship match in the 2018 AFC Women's Asian Cup.
Allie Long and Megan Rapinoe: Two veterans of the U.S. Women's National Team - midfielder Allie Long and forward Megan Rapinoe - were called up to the team's training camp roster for the United States' friendly matches against China. On June 7, the U.S. Women's National Team plays China in Sandy, Utah for a match that can be seen on FS1 at 6 p.m. PT. The two sides meet again on June 12 in Cleveland, Ohio for another friendly. ESPN2 has the broadcast for the June 12 clash, which kicks off at 4 p.m. PT.
Theresa Nielsen: Nielsen was called into action by Denmark. Her team has two upcoming World Cup qualifying matches. On June 8, Denmark meets Ukraine for a match in Lviv, Ukraine. Four days later on June 12, Denmark hosts Hungary in Viborg, Denmark. The Seattle defender has 122 caps and four goals on the international circuit. Denmark currently sits in second place in Group 4 on nine points.
Jodie Taylor: The England Women's National Football Team announced its roster for an upcoming World Cup qualifying match against Russia. Jodie Taylor was among the 20 players chosen to represent The Lionesses. England's match against Russia is a Group 1 qualifier for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. The two sides will kick off from Sapsan Arena in Moscow, Russia on June 8. Fans can watch the match on BBC Red Button. Taylor joins Rachel Daly of Houston Dash as the lone NWSL representatives on England's roster.
All seven players will return to Reign FC prior to Seattle's June 16 match against the Washington Spirit and are expected to be available for selection in the game.
