Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - Despite being badly outhit on Sunday evening, the Quakes won their third straight game, hanging on to defeat the San Jose Giants by a final of 5-4 at LoanMart Field.
A five-run third inning helped offset San Jose outing Rancho, 12-5, as the Quakes won for the fourth time in six games and took the series, 4-2.
Trailing 3-0 in the third, Rancho took advantage of three walks by San Jose starter Manuel Mercedes, scoring five times to take the lead for good. Joe Vetrano had the big hit in the inning, a two-run single to put the Quakes ahead 4-3.
Leading 5-3 in the fourth, Livan Reinoso (3-1) gave up a run, but got some help from Brandon Neeck, who struck out Onil Perez with the tying and go-ahead runs aboard to end the threat.
The game remained scoreless the rest of the way, with Madison Jeffrey working around a two-out double to strike out Perez again to secure his eighth save of the year.
The Quakes (15-15, 54-42) will take Monday off and then open a six-game road trip in Fresno on Tuesday night at 6:50pm. Chris Campos (5-4) will take on lefty Michael Prosecky in the opener from Fresno.
The Quakes will return home to LoanMart Field on Tuesday, August 8 for another Healthy RC Recycle Tuesday. Visit rcquakes.com and find out how to score a FREE Club Seat Ticket to Tuesday's game. Tickets are available at rcquakes.com...Go Quakes!
