Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Bowling Green, KY - The Bowling Green Hot Rods (35-30) slugged three home runs in their 6-2 victory over the West Michigan Whitecaps (32-33) on Tuesday night at Bowling Green Ballpark. In game one of the three-game set, Todd Glaesmann, Drew Vettleson, and Cameron Seitzer all swatted homers for the Hot Rods, who saw their magic number to clinch the Eastern Division Wild Card shrink to three with the win.
The Whitecaps struck first in the game when Eugenio Suarez smacked a solo home run in the top of the first inning. Glaesmann's big fly put the Hot Rods back in to the game when he homered to the opposite field to begin the second inning, though. The home run was Glaesmann's second in as many at bats dating back to Monday night in Dayton.
Bowling Green then took their first lead on a two-out, RBI-single from Jake Hager in the bottom of the third. Later in the inning, Vettleson's long, two-run homer extended the Hot Rods lead to 4-1. It was Vettleson's first home run in the month of June.
Just as West Michigan was starting to chip away at the lead, the Hot Rods used Seitzer's first home run of the season to put the Whitecaps away for good. Seitzer, who had narrowly missed a few longballs this season, served up a no-doubter over the fence in right-centerfield to give Bowling Green a 6-2 advantage.
Hot Rods starter Roberto Gomez allowed two solo home runs in his strong 6.2 innings of work on Tuesday night and picked up his sixth win of the season. Justin Woodall was responsible for the final seven outs of the game as he notched his second save of the 2012 campaign.
Both teams are back in action on Wednesday afternoon at 12:05 PM CDT for the middle game of the three-game set. Join the Hot Rods for the BGMU Businessperson Special at the ballpark.
