Trenton Thunder News Release
ERIE, PA - A six-run first inning by the Erie SeaWolves gave them a comfortable lead as they went on to an 8-3 win over the Thunder on Monday night at UPMC Park.
The SeaWolves offense took advantage of some early wildness by Thunder starter Will Carter to grab the commanding advantage. Carter walked three men and surrendered six runs on four hits before being lifted with two outs in the bottom of the first inning by Nestor Cortes. Carter suffered his first loss of the season and threw 38 pitches on Monday.
Erie added another run in the second inning when Gabriel Quintana singled in Dominic Ficociello for a 7-0 lead.
Cortes would get the Thunder through the fourth inning with one run allowed on three hits and one walk, he struck out three. Stephen Tarpley and James Reeves finished the game out of the Thunder bullpen, holding Erie to just one run over the final four frames.
Trey Amburgey knocked his second home run of the season in the fourth inning to account for the Thunder's best offense of the night. His opposite field shot scored Jhalan Jackson to make it 7-2.
Ben Ruta led the Thunder offense with a 3-for-3 night at the plate in which he also drew a walk. Ruta now has a five-game hit streak and a season average of .419, the top mark on the team. Gosuke Katoh singled twice in the game to extend his on-base streak to ten games to begin the season.
Your Thunder continue their road trip on Tuesday night at 6:05pm against the SeaWolves. RHP Brian Keller (0-1, 11.57) will start for the Thunder, RHP Beau Burrows (0-0, 0.00) will go for Erie. Pre-game coverage begins at 5:50pm on 920 AM The Jersey and online www.TrentonThunder.com/Broadcast.
