Erie SeaWolves News Release

The SeaWolves were down to their final out on Thursday night at Dunkin' Donuts Park and rallied to complete a seven-run comeback, taking down the Hartford Yard Goats, 11-10.

The SeaWolves struck first in the top of the first inning against Goats starter Ryan Castellani. Jacob Robson led off with a walk and moved to third on a one-out Dominic Ficociello base hit. Kody Eaves singled home Robson with two outs for a 1-0 lead.

The Yard Goats jumped all over Erie starter Anthony Castro in the second to take the lead. Forrest Wall led off with a hit and Brendan Rodgers was hit by a pitch. An errant pickoff throw by Erie catcher Jake Rogers advanced the baserunners. Dom Nunez then walked to load the bases for Sam Hilliard. Hilliard reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Wall, tying the game. Mylz Jones doubled home Rodgers for a 2-1 lead. A wild pitch with Nelson Molina hitting scored Hilliard from third for a 3-1 Goats advantage. After a Molina walk, Ryan Metzler singled home a pair for a 5-1 Hartford lead.

Erie cut into the Harford lead in the third. Robson walked for the second time and was tripled home by Will Maddox making it 5-2. Ficociello followed with a groundout to second, scoring Maddox, cutting the lead down to two runs.

Hartford extended the lead in the sixth against Erie reliever Joe Navilhon. Molina led off and reached on an error. Metzler followed with a two-run home run to make it 7-3. With one out, Sam Tidaback singled and Wall reached on an error in front of Rodgers. Rodgers belted a three-run home run to left, giving the Goats a 10-3 lead.

The SeaWolves closed the gap once again in the top of the seventh against Goats reliever Logan Cozart. Rogers led off with a single and moved to third on a Danny Woodrow double. Sergio Alcantara singled home Rogers making it 10-4. Robson followed with a base hit, soring Woodrow to make it 10-5. With one out, Ficociello lifted a sacrifice fly to center, plating Alcantara, making it 10-6. Josh Lester followed with his first hit of the series, a two-run home run to right making it 10-8. The home run for Lester was his fourth of the season.

Erie then rallied in the ninth inning against Goats reliever Sean Nolin. Nolin retired the first two batters but Ficociello kept the game alive with a base hit to center. Lester and Eaves followed with walks to load the bases for Chad Sedio. Hartford brought reliever Scott Griggs to face Sedio. Sedio worked a 2-2 count before clubbing a bases-clearing double down the right field line, giving Erie an 11-10 lead.

Caleb Thielbar (1-0) worked three scoreless innings, including the ninth, in relief to pick up the win for the SeaWolves. He allowed two hits with no walks and two strikeouts.

Nolin (1-2) took the loss for the Goats allowing three runs on two hits with two walks and three strikeouts in two innings.

Both starters took no-decisions. Castellani allowed three runs on three hits with three walks and four strikeouts in six innings for the Goats. Castro lasted one-plus innings for Erie allowing five runs on three hits with four walks and a strikeout.

The SeaWolves head to Trenton to take on the Thunder in a three-game weekend series at ARM & HAMMER Park. Righty Sandy Baez (0-5, 4.42 ERA) gets the nod for Erie in the series opener against RHP Dillon Tate (4-2, 3.43 ERA).
