Seattle Announces Preseason Slate against Phoenix, Fourth Annual Storm into STEM Day

SEATTLE - The Seattle Storm today announced that it will face the Phoenix Mercury twice during the 2018 preseason. In conjunction with the preseason opener on Tuesday, May 8 at noon, the Storm will host its fourth annual 'Storm into S.T.E.M. School Day.'

The 'Storm into S.T.E.M. School Day' preseason game will include a student robotics showcase, featuring middle school and high school robotics teams throughout Washington state at 11 a.m. Tickets start at $10, with a complimentary chaperone ticket available per 10 student tickets purchased. After hosting the Mercury on May 8, the Storm will travel to Phoenix for its final preseason game on Saturday, May 12, set to tipoff at 7 p.m. at Talking Stick Resort Arena. The 2018 preseason marks the fourth consecutive year in which the Storm will face Phoenix in a two-game, home-and-away format. Seattle is 5-5 all-time against Phoenix in preseason games, including a 1-1 mark in 2017 and 4-1 all-time record at KeyArena.

The Storm is coming off a second-consecutive playoff appearance, including its 13th all-time. The team returns 2017 WNBA All-Star Breanna Stewart, who finished second in the league in scoring last season with 19.9 points per game, along with rising superstar Jewell Loyd, who posted a career-best 17.7 points per game in 2017. The all-time assist leader in WNBA history, Sue Bird comes back at the point to begin her 17th season in Seattle, and she averaged a career-best 6.6 dimes per game a year ago.

Seattle tips off its home schedule on May 20 vs. Phoenix at KeyArena on Opening Night presented by Swedish, and the first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a free Bird autographed bobblehead to celebrate her WNBA all-time assist record last season.
